Prospective students
LSU’s School of the Coast and Environment offers a stimulating and challenging experience for students interested in graduate degrees in environment sciences or oceanography and coastal sciences. Students have the opportunity to conduct exciting and meaningful research with an interdisciplinary faculty of national and international stature.
The Department of Environmental Sciences offers a Master of Science degree in environmental sciences with the following concentrations:
- Environmental toxicology
- Environmental planning and management (also available as a collaborative graduate program with LSU Shreveport)
- Wetland science and management (in conjunction with DOCS)
- ENVS also offers a Doctor of Philosophy minor in environmental sciences in the following concentrations:
• Environmental toxicology
• Environmental planning and management.The faculty members in the Department of Environmental Sciences have expertise in disciplines including physical chemistry, analytical chemistry, biochemistry, toxicology, microbiology, ecology, law, and political science. A holistic approach to environmental problems is the cornerstone of our academic and research efforts.

The Department of Oceanography and Coastal Sciences offers Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees and supports the expansion of marine-related instruction in other academic departments. DOCS also offers an undergraduate minor in oceanography and coastal sciences.Research and instruction in DOCS are focused on fundamental understanding and practical application of knowledge of the physical, chemical, biological, geological, and meteorological processes that affect those environments usually identified as marine, coastal, or estuarine.
