The faculty of SC&E form an interdisciplinary cadre
of national and international stature, conducting research
in campus laboratories or in unique natural settings in
Louisiana and around the world.
Areas of expertise include oceanography and coastal sciences,
wetland studies, environmental toxicology and remediation,
modeling, hurricane research, coastal ecology, coastal restoration
planning and management, and fisheries, to name just a few.
A message from Dick Schneider
The heart and soul of the School is its significant research program related to understanding wetland structure and environment and its relationship to river systems and gulf waters that support it and surround it. The research program is designed to understand wetland propagation and train scientists to continue this important work and pursue other environmental endeavors.
A key element in our program is our “laboratory”, the great Mississippi Delta and the wetlands created by the mighty Mississippi River and its tributaries. Less than 100 miles from where I’m sitting, teams of researchers including professors, graduate students, and undergrads are delving into the mysteries of wetland formation, propagation, and ultimately recovery and sustenance for the future.
Our research is significant and we plan to share it with you on a regular basis as a feature of this website. I trust this information will be useful to you.
